Jazz Night with Darius
Enjoy this popular new evening of jazz each third Friday of the month! This one pairs
Darius Brotman, piano, with singer, Bill Allison, Humboldt’s own master of vocalese,
the art of jazz improvisation with the voice.

Darius Brotman
Darius is from Berkeley. He's been teaching, accompanying, and playing on the local scene in Arcata for 25 years. In 1999 he received a grant to write an extended jazz suite, The Rambler. He's published articles in jazz journals, and hosts Gone Sides, a jazz show on KHSU 90.5 FM or online at khsu.org, Tuesdays at 8:00 PM.

Bill Allison
Bill Allison, Associate Professor of Music at C.R., is co-founder of the Monterey Peninsula Jazz Orchestra, serving as Educational Director and band vocalist from 1989-1993. He is a past member (1998-2001) of the Northwest Composers' and Improvisers' Collective, and an alumnus of the Jim Knapp Chamber Groove Orchestra, which explores new cross-genre compositions in both live performances and recordings. Bill, who has also taught through the Humboldt State University Music Academy since 2001, has recorded several CDs in conjunction with some of the Northwest's finest jazz musicians.
