Earth becomes art in the "Cotton, Grass, and Clay" exhibit opening July 11 at Westhaven Center for the Arts.

Ann Anderson started quilting 35 years ago and the works shown include traditional designs, quilts with modern twists on traditional designs and designs based on other textile media.

Kathy Reid has been creating straw art for over 30 years and uses ancient techniques to preserve traditional designs and create new original straw art as blessings for harvest, home and special occasions.

Fire Arts Center artists Laura Rose, Utamay, Elaine Shore, Margo Whitcomb, Rozz and Louise Campbell display works created at the ceramics and glass studios in Arcata. Additional information about Fire Arts Center can be found at fireartsarcata.com.

"Cotton, Grass, and Clay" opens with a reception Sunday, July 11 from 1:00 to 4:00 pm at the Westhaven Center for the Arts and continues through August 29. WCA is located four miles north of McKinleyville at 501 S. Westhaven Drive. For more information call 677-9493.
